Mandatory Identity Verification

Under the Economic Crime and Corporate Transparency Act 2023, from 18 November 2025, all company directors and Persons with Significant Control (PSC) of UK-registered companies must verify their identity with Companies House.

This requirement applies to all companies, directors, and PSCs – whether they are based inside or outside the UK.

When must verification be completed?

  • No later than the date of your company’s next Confirmation Statement.
Example: If your next deadline is 31 March 2026, all directors and PSCs must complete their identity verification by that date.

  • For newly appointed directors or PSCs – within 14 days of the appointment being registered.

How can you verify your identity?

  1. Online via the GOV.UK One Login service

    • At the end of the online process, you will receive a unique personal code, which must be kept secure.

  2. Through an Authorised Corporate Service Provider (ACSP)

    • For example, an accountant or solicitor can complete the process on your behalf.

    • Our firm is an authorised ACSP and can arrange verification for you if required.

Why is this important?

  • Without identity verification for all directors and PSCs, your company will not be able to file its Confirmation Statement.

  • Failure to comply may result in legal consequences and financial penalties.

Your next steps

  1. Check the deadline for your next Confirmation Statement.

  2. Complete your identity verification – you can do this now.

  3. Provide your personal code to your accountant or authorised representative.
